My Journey through Colic, GERD, and Acid Reflux

Colic GERD and Acid Reflux

Colic, GERD, and Acid Reflux. The words you dread hearing when you have a newborn.  You know how horrible heartburn, acid reflux from a greasy meal, and a tummy ache feel yourself? Imagine what your baby feels when her underdevelopment organs aren’t functioning properly. It’s the worst feeling in the world hearing your baby suffer in pain. All you can do is try to soothe. The blood curdling screams and piercing cries still make me cringe. I’m not lying when I say that I suffer from PTCD (Post Traumatic Colic Disorder). I still immediately panic inside when I hear those cries.

Colic GERD and Acid Reflux

My first born was born in the dead of winter. I remember strapping on tennis shoes for back support and pacing our 10’x10′ living room of our very old home (with the crickiest floors ever, might I add!) for 2 hours every night.  After the 2 hours were over, I would turn off all the hallway bathroom lights, run all the faucets and shush loudly in my daughter’s ear for another hour.  I did this because she was in pain and I wanted to soothe her. I mean look at this picture of her belly. I would be in pain if that’s what my belly looked like too! (and I exclusively breastfed if you are wondering what in the heck is in there). I wish I would have had a Mommy Wrap to help during all those times!

Colic GERD and Acid Reflux

My second born was luckily born in the spring. This child was by far my hardest, and the ultimate reason I invented The Mommy Wrap®. I would strap my baby in the Baby Bjorn and walk around my neighborhood for up to 6 hours every night for 14 weeks straight. I gave up what felt like eating completely, because I quickly came to realize that almost everything has the milk protein whey and casein in it, which is ultimately what caused my daughter to be colic. I studied colic and GERD (acid reflux) whenever I was breastfeeding, making me an expert in the field. Again, all I wanted to do was soothe my baby. I couldn’t stand that this tiny 5 pound premie was unhappy and in pain ALL the time. At the end of every night, I found myself sitting on an exercise ball, wrapping her body with my sweater, holding her tightly and just wishing I could connect the darn thing to provide me support and freeing up a hand to at least itch my nose. And pockets! I wanted a pocket to place my phone in during those long walks. I wear those tank tops with built in bras, you know?  I wanted something that would cover me up so I felt a little more comfortable in public.  For all these reasons, I invented The Mommy Wrap®.

I lucked out with my third child. She was just a little colic unlike my second, but she does very much so suffer from GERD.  What is GERD anyway, you ask? Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive disease. GERD occurs when stomach acid or, occasionally, stomach content, flows back into your food pipe (esophagus). The backwash (reflux) irritates the lining of your esophagus and causes GERD. (Thank you, Mayo Clinic, for the medical definition.) Again, it’s painful in adults, so imagine how painful it is in babies!  Luckily, this time around, I have my Mommy Wrap® to help soothe her! The Mommy Wrap® has become by everyday uniform for taking care of my baby. It helps me get those painful bubbles and burps out; it helps me keep her upright for 30 minutes after each feeding and be able to move around the house; and it helps me take care of my other kids while holding my baby.

During that fourth trimester and your baby’s first three months of life, you will do anything and everything you can do to help soothe that baby. Am I right or am I right?

I remember googling ways to help soothe a colic baby or help keep baby upright to avoid acid reflux and GERD episodes. In my sleep deprived and panic mode days, I remember struggling to take care of my toddler while soothing my colic baby, continuously barking orders at my husband to bring me something I needed, and then misplacing everything he brought me.  I needed help keeping my baby upright for 30 minutes after each feeding, and I didn’t want to strap on some cumbersome baby carrier just to take it off 10 minutes later. I needed something that I could throw on quickly and transfer my baby out of when she fell asleep.  I needed something with pockets so I wouldn’t lose everything, and I needed something that would hold the stupid pacifier that kept dropping on the floor. That’s why I invented The Mommy Wrap®.

The Mommy Wrap® has ended up being much more than what I invented it for. Although I have a patent-pending for its utility, I think of it as so much more than just something for my baby.  The Mommy Wrap® is something that I can use for years and years.  Someone recently told me, it is a small investment that will last a lifetime.  So dead on.  From maternity wear to great-grannyhood, the Mommy Wrap® can help in all areas of being a mom or just someone that wants to leave the purse at home!

That’s why we say, the

Mommy Wrap® Makes Mom Life Easier.
